More intimate than a living room, this area is intended solely for the purpose of conversation and one-on-one entertainment. We like to think of them as "no phone zones," leaving room for intentional time together. As digitally connected as we are these days, being purposeful about carving out meaningful time and space gives us permission to put ourselves in a much-needed time out. Traditionally speaking, ceiling beams are structural elements, wooden or steel joists left exposed instead of being covered or hidden above the ceiling. However, non-structural beams crafted from materials like resin, foam, or wood framing can be added strictly for decorative purposes. These options are often manufactured to mimic natural materials and are much lighter in weight than solid wood. Although beams can be installed at any point during the design process, construction detailing allows us to include this element in the plans from the ground up, allowing for a more integrated and finished result.
