Noteworthy Neutrals
Do you love the soothing minimalist appeal of a neutral-toned space? At Susan Semmelmann Interiors, we receive many client requests for this look and feel, and it is always a fun challenge to keep it fresh, interesting, unique, and noteworthy! One of our favorite ways to bump up the appeal of a neutral space is through the use of texture – both visual and tactile. Visual texture is also referred to as implied texture because it is not actually real; it is an illusion created through artistic media to mimic certain surfaces and create the appearance of depth and dimension. Artwork, wallcoverings, rugs, fabrics, and wall treatments are several design elements that can introduce beautiful visual texture. Actual texture is tactile in nature. It draws the eye in with raised, patterned, and sculptural elements of materials like wood, stone, plaster, tile, and textiles, among others. The immediate response is to reach out and touch the surface and admire the artistic craftsmanship and creative design vision. This week’s inspiration images include a lovely design palette as an example of a perfectly planned neutral look with just the right blend of soothing vibes and sophisticated style. Let Susan Semmelmann Interiors help you design a noteworthy neutral space with the addition of fabulous, fashion-forward textural features! Spa White, Spa Bright
At Susan Semmelmann Interiors, we love to create relaxing, spa-like experiences in our clients’ homes, and one sure-fire ingredient to make the magic happen is the color white. There are many shades, tones, and variations of white, ranging from the coolest of cool to the warmest of warm; all can be used as a gorgeous backdrop for a stunning bathroom retreat. White provides a soothing sensory experience and calms the nervous system by reducing visual input and stimuli. Simplicity and sophistication are the keys to this look and vibe. The fewer colors combined in a space, and the simpler and more pared-back a design is, the more calming it feels. As these images convey beautifully, staying with a neutral foundation of white creates a luxurious space to showcase signature design elements like stunning tile work, natural stone, statement light fixtures, and elegant accessories. Let Susan Semmelmann Interiors help you design a serene bathroom sanctuary in your home with the glamourous glow of spa white, spa bright! Better Together
At Susan Semmelmann Interiors, we often say that less is more when it comes to home design, but sometimes (only sometimes) more is better! More pendant lights, that its! Pendants are often used in singular applications in kitchens and bathrooms, adding a touch of elegance and beautiful sparkle to any area. But we also love the effect of using multiple pendants in a group to create a custom installation that is one-of-a-kind and wholly unique. This week’s cover image features heavenly cloud-inspired pendants placed throughout the room resulting in a gorgeous dream space with a soothing ethereal vibe. These amazing designs showcase the stunning effect that can be accomplished by strategic placement of multiple pendants – grouping and layering the same style and size, or using different variations and sizes with the same look and feel. The result is a multidimensional look with loads of visual interest and appeal. In our design of last year’s Fort Worth Magazine Dream Home, the living area features several installations consisting of eight pendant lights each. As you can see in the final image, the chandelier effect is a showstopping element in the overall design – matching the room in scale and sophistication. At Susan Semmelmann Interiors, we put the pieces of your home design together in fresh and unexpected ways. We love working with our clients every day to accomplish their home dreams because, of course, we’re better together! Glow with the Flow
At Susan Semmelmann Interiors, we love to make our clients’ homes sparkle and glow! Mirror tile is a fabulous addition to any interior; it provides an element of glamour and sophistication that lights up the atmosphere. These images highlight the versatility and creativity of mirror tile when layered into a design. In more subtle applications, like the chic and elegant headboard accent wall featured here, it can be used to complement furnishings and décor in a space to bump up the glam factor. A bolder approach can be taken with larger surface applications to create stunning showcase moments - the cracked glass effect of the mirror tile ceiling in this week’s cover image is out of this world! Mirrored elements provide high visual impact without fighting design elements for attention; they add luster and gorgeous depth and dimension. Used strategically, mirrors can enlarge the look and feel of a room and amplify the effects of light, both natural light and interior feature lighting. As you can see, small spaces also love the wow factor that comes with this design choice! Susan Semmelmann Interiors can help your home design glow with the flow with the addition of marvelous mirror tile! We love these fabulous designs that incorporate this stunning shade with sophistication and elegance. Bright colors demand a starring role, and these interiors are all aboard that train of thought. Whether paired with soft, muted neutrals or showcased against a darker, moodier backdrop, bright yellow is a beautiful choice for a touch of visual drama, not to mention an increase in serotonin levels! Some Sage Advice
Susan Semmelmann Interiors would like to offer you some sage advice: incorporate the gorgeous color sage into your home design! This ultra-soothing shade is aptly named for the earthy gray-green herb. A lighter, muted shade of green, it is wonderfully versatile as it plays well with cool and warm tones alike. These beautiful images are evidence that this stunning hue creates a welcoming, elegant vibe that is grounding and peaceful. Sage can be considered a neutral on its own but is also a lovely pop of color against a palette of more subtle neutrals like ivories, tans, grays, and wood tones. Because of the gray undertones, it imparts a smoky look that is chic and sophisticated. We love to provide design elements to our clients that convey every possible mood, pattern, effect, and colorway; sage is a wonderful go-to hue to add to the mix! Let Susan Semmelmann Interiors impart our best advice for your interior design by adding the subtle, stylish beauty of sage! Hidden Wonders
“To create something exceptional, your mind must be relentlessly focused on the smallest detail” ~ Georgio Armani. At Susan Semmelmann Interiors, our minds are always focused on the details that go into creating beautifully seamless designs for our clients. At any stage, from the ground-up process of construction detailing to the renovation of an existing build, our team knows how to integrate design elements that flow and feel entirely organic to each interior. There are many viable solutions to camouflage or minimize functional details like outlets, cords, switches, hardware, and storage components that would otherwise detract from the overall look of a space. The same functional and aesthetic consideration should be given to drapery and window treatments. More traditional design styles call for the ornate beauty of custom rods and gorgeous patterned fabrics, while other styles call for a more modern, minimal approach that provides continuous eye-line and flow. Fully automated hidden track drapery is absolutely the way to go when a minimalist approach is needed. These stunning interiors highlight the effect of recessing the drapery track in the ceiling, so there is no “break” in the desired look. Often used with floor-to-ceiling windows, the uninterrupted lines create a seamless, elegant, jaw-dropping result. Just stunning! Let Susan Semmelmann help you dial in the details of your home design with the wonderful addition of automated hidden track drapery! Speaking of wonder-full, Happy Easter from our families to yours! Plum Gorgeous
At Susan Semmelmann Interiors, we have a passion for plum! These interiors highlight the soft, elegant beauty of this gorgeous shade. When our clients are looking for a subtle pop of color but want to keep the mood relaxed and understated, plum is a fabulous choice. The look is luxurious and chic and brings just the right touch of magic and wow-factor to a room. Layering this sublime hue with a palette of grays, golds, and ivories complements the smoky vibe while maintaining a cohesive, show-stopping space. Lighting also plays a major role in pulling off this look. Not only do statement light fixtures bump up the glamour factor, but the combination of colors plays beautifully against soft, diffused light, creating a room with a view that keeps you coming back! The result is livable luxury at its finest. Let Susan Semmelmann Interiors help you create a stunning home design that is perfectly polished and plum gorgeous! Curve Appeal
At Susan Semmelmann Interiors, we love to play with the intersections of line, form, and function when designing interiors for our clients. Furnishings with curved lines add beautiful flow to an otherwise linear space, providing visual interest, softening edges, and bringing a modern, organic vibe to a room. These images highlight the creative, artistic element that results from the playful contradiction of freeform curves against structured angles. This style is elegant and unique; it becomes a feature event that doesn’t need busy embellishment or distraction to showcase its beauty or personality. Key foundation elements to set the tone for these furnishings are neutral or monochrome color palettes and bold architectural lines to complement and offset the signature look and feel. Statement artwork, custom light fixtures, and the soft focus of natural light also play starring roles in these interiors to augment and elevate the completed space. Let Susan Semmelmann Interiors help you show off your home’s fabulous curve appeal by adding gorgeous, curved furnishings to your interior design! These images highlight the magic that happens when these colors combine; cool, chic gray tones meet warm golden hues for an elegant, refined, show-stopping scene. When our clients are seeking a timeless, sophisticated look and feel, we often reach for a variation of this color palette that becomes a beautiful backdrop for luxurious fabrics, statement lighting, mirrored features, stand-out artwork and accessories, and sleek modern furnishings. The result is a finished and polished look with a smooth undercurrent of pure glamour. Polished Powder Room
Susan Semmelmann Interiors loves creating big design statements in small spaces, and the powder room is a perfect place to weave in major wow factor! This is a fun space to be playful with design and go bold with materials, fixtures, and art. As one of the areas utilized by guests, this is a great opportunity for a big dose of personality and welcoming hospitality. Even though the space is smaller, the size and scale of design elements can be exaggerated for visual effect and impact. Like surround sound for interiors, everything is vivid and up close so taking care with the smallest details is imperative. As you can see in these gorgeous images, features like tile design, floor-to-ceiling marble and stone applications, accent and statement lighting, and signature accessories shine as pieces of the design puzzle that beautifully combine to make each look complete. There are also elements of surprise and delight through shape and form that make each design fashion-forward and fabulous. Let Susan Semmelmann Interiors help you create a statement-making space in your home with the addition of a perfectly polished powder room! (S)teal This Look
At Susan Semmelmann Interiors, we love the gorgeous look and feel of tasteful, trendsetting teal – you definitely want to (s)teal this look! This shade is calming and renewing, a striking combination of soothing deep blues and greens. It is reminiscent of that beautiful midline ribbon of color that presents itself as the ocean graduates from shallow to deep. These fabulous images highlight the style and sophistication teal brings to an interior when used against a neutral or monochromatic backdrop; the result is simply sublime. This shade is a stand-out that loves to stand alone for a showcase moment. Integrating a bold color like this into a design plan should always be accomplished with a proper amount of balance and reserve for maximum effect. As you can see, this saturated hue is perfectly paired with velvet fabric, which intensifies the play of light and shadow, creating luxurious depth and dimension. Jeweled tones on velvet upholstery are surprisingly versatile and wear beautifully for a feel of elegance and lived-in luxury. Checkmate
The same way checkmate is the ultimate victory in chess; checkerboard floors are a big winner in beautiful interior design! At Susan Semmelmann Interiors, we love to infuse the homes we design with timeless elegance and personal flair that reflect each client’s unique individuality. Checkerboard floors are a fantastic option to create a truly show-stopping space. A flooring mainstay since before the Renaissance, this style is always stunning in a chic, glamourous, retro-Hollywood kind of way. Though the bold pattern has a strong presence in a room, it also acts as a neutral in that it supports statement décor elements without fighting for attention. These images highlight some gorgeous ways to incorporate this look and feel into your home. Whether an accent application or a larger expanse of space, both marry beautifully with fabulous art, accessories, furnishings, fixtures, and architecture. The result is a one-of-a-kind environment that speaks directly to the homeowner’s signature style. There is also a fun and playful vibe that comes through with this pattern – who else would be tempted to set up a life-sized game of chess or hopscotch through your living room?! Let Susan Semmelmann Interiors have you saying checkmate about your winning home design with the addition of checkerboard floors! Stone In Love
Susan Semmelmann Interiors is stone in love with these stunning stone walls! This type of rough-hewn interior rock wall is trending in a big way right now. While interior stone walls are not a new concept, this particular look and feel is almost as if the materials were sliced from a mountainside; mimicking a raw material that has been sourced, then applied in a less “refined” or processed state. Even when a stone-like texture is utilized, the result is a high-impact, dramatic visual in a space that is otherwise chic and elegant. The juxtaposition of rugged texture against sleek finishes is gorgeous. As you can see in these fabulous designs, the simple sophistication of décor elements like crystal chandeliers, glass bathtubs, velvety-soft furnishings, and delicate accessories stand in stark contrast against the stone walls. Still, the complete look is beautiful and harmonious. Utilizing a neutral or monochromatic color palette with subtle pops of color is the best way to incorporate this feature element, providing a backdrop for the raw texture to shine against the play of light and shadow. How do you feel about making a design statement with stone in our home? Susan Semmelmann Interiors can help you fall stone in love with your interior with a rock wall revamp! Watch Your Step
Susan Semmelmann Interiors highly encourages you to watch your step…literally! These gorgeous glass stairways provide a front-row view of this stunning and innovative interior design element! Stairway design can be as cutting-edge and creative as you want it to be, and we love working with our construction detailing clients to dream up fabulous staircases that become stand-alone design features, not just functional passageways. Glass-enclosed stairways are sleek and sophisticated with an elegant modern vibe; they convey an element of movement and flow that a solid or railed enclosure simply cannot provide. The reflective and translucent qualities of glass add beautiful shine and create a multi-dimensional effect throughout the phases of any given day – inviting the flow of natural light during daylight hours and showcasing the reflection of interior light features in the evenings. Stairways are pathways from one space to the next, and we believe the journey up and down the stairs should be as beautiful as the spaces they connect. At Susan Semmelmann Interiors, we touch every area of a home with intentional, personalized design, so let us help you watch your step with a glamorous glass-enclosed stairway! Shut the Front Door!
Can we take a minute – or more – to admire these fabulous front doors? Stunning! At Susan Semmelmann Interiors, we are all about designing the whole home, inside out and outside in. The front door design is an important consideration as the focal point of a home's façade. This feature element sets the tone as the first "hello" guests and homeowners encounter when approaching an entrance. It is a first impression that doubles as a greeting and a warm welcome. Special consideration should also be given to the interior aesthetic a door's style provides and how it dovetails with the home's vibe. As you can see from these beautiful designs, options are only limited to imagination, creativity, and pure artistry. If your dream door isn't available to acquire through a vendor, it can be custom crafted to exact size, scale, material, hardware, and design specifications. Construction detailing allows us to custom tailor this feature to create a beautiful, seamless flow during the building process. If you are looking to edit an existing doorway design, there are countless (gorgeous!) options for that as well. It's amazing how this one simple change can elevate a home's exterior! Let Susan Interiors help you design the perfect entrance to your home that will have friends and family saying, "shut the front door!" when they see the front door!
